Floriferous Thoughts

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my first blog.

To tell the truth I actually am not entirely sure what a blog should look like and what it ‘should’ contain, but there’s no set framework for sharing a few thoughts, so from brain to page- here it goes!

I thought that for today’s blog I’d share a little bit about some exciting developments that are coming to fruition at the moment as there’s plenty of time to share some other bits once the wave of furious floriferous planning has subsided somewhat.

See, the clue is in the title. Something floral is on the horizon and almost entirely inspired by some wonderful and encouraging people in my life who take happiness from cultivating happiness. And they know that cultivating and growing beautiful plants (on a garden scale I might add) makes me happy. Fast forward through a few pie-in -the-sky conversations and I bring you to today. Today is the day that I’m planning my very own cut-flower plot to bring beautiful, environmentally responsible, seasonal and abundant flowers to the local area in Grampound Road, Cornwall.

I’m starting with a plot which is very roughly 250 meters squared (with room to grow- boom boom) which I plan to prepare over the coming months. Weeds to cut back, soil to prepare, plot to mark out and fence, storage area to seek, seeds to sow, crop successions to plan, tubers and bulbs to source and all on a very limited budget, whilst working my full-time office job.

I’ve always enjoyed a challenge. The picture link to this blog is me having grown some rather enormous sunflowers for a Blue Peter competition. I didn’t feature on the show - or even win a badge (not still disappointed 25 years on!)
But in all seriousness, it’s not competition I enjoy- it’s the process of creativity. Taking something and elevating it.

That’s what I hope to do with my new cutting garden. Take a small piece of land and make it a place full of beauty that others can enjoy. Whether that’s through sharing my journey with you online, through selling my flowers from my tiny, patch-of-land farm, or some new and unthought of way that will become apparent in the coming months and seasons.
